I got to #77 on Guardians off spam reporting alone (earning 1500 buzz). When does it end?!

The spam flood on articles over the past few weeks shows no sign of stopping. The spam flood that prompted a major announcement and new anti-spam features wasn't remotely this bad. I wonder if we'll get an official comment and more anti-spam measures anti-time soon because while the extra buzz is nice, I'd gladly trade it for an article section that isn't full of spam. A "spam" report option would certainly be a nice start. Also according to the leaderboard two of my reports in the last month were rejected. No idea how that happened considering everything I reported was clearly spam.
(If you didn't know, you too can earn 100-150 buzz by reporting spam. I wrote this article about it.)
Curiously, the type of spam seems to have leveled up too. Gone are the bizarrely local things like brick and motar Indian fabric shops (I still don't understand the economics of that, even as a front for criminal activity the chances anyone remotely near a single brick and mortar location on the internet are virtually non-existant) and come are the more "normal" kind - Gambling, fake tech help website, and even a fake app impersonating this very site.
As for why we've been hit so hard: I suspect official stuff involving Superman's dog but with a C that triggered this. I've heard YouTubers observe even the most minimal mention triggers an absolute feeding frenzy for bots. (Not that I think the staff did anything wrong in this regard or that this genie can be put back in a bottle)
Pic unrelated: Juggernaut XL can't do axolotls well.
