    Farewell

First of all this is not a spontaneous decision.

I saw most commits in the Civitai GitHub related to red-split and just waited to make sure I understood everything correctly.

I decided that if things were really as I thought, I’d delete all my content again and leave the site for good this time.

I have been using Civitai since January 2023, more than 32 months. For about 13–16 of those months, I paid for a gold subscription at $50 a month (~$650–800 total). I’ve already deleted previous accounts with all the content myself because of constant bugs on the site and the team’s total ignorance of abuse and bot reports.

I'm just a software engineer and do not understand anything about art. I started posting images just for fun, but somehow reached #7 in master generators for a while (now I’m around #14 in NSFW and 30–41 without NSFW). At first, that happened mostly because of a bug that reset the publish date, but even after those bugged images stopped counting, I was still there. So I guess my content wasn’t complete trash. I tried to make it at least unique and decent quality.

At first, I posted images with visible prompts. But I quickly learned that many users just copypaste your work without changes, even botting it, and then those copies end up in “SUPER ART” collections. Meanwhile, you look at your original image the one you spent hundreds of yellow buzz on sitting at 10 likes, while the copy gets all the attention and you don't even get anything in return.

Hiding the prompt doesn’t help either. The site doesn’t have a proper recommendation system. People who know how to post or just bot their posts end up at the top and collect all the buzz.

If you’re unlucky in the first 5–10 minutes after posting, the system basically buries your work. Add to that constant replication lag, a broken gallery, and the tiny 24-hour window to get noticed. it’s just frustrating.

I experimented a lot and saw how images posted without scheduling or without the magic (now) “anime” tag (that you need to add yourself now) barely get 10–20 likes. Then posted it using scheduled post with anime and other tags and the same image got ~1000 likes. I did it at lest 10 times. All results are the same. Nobody checks your profile even if you have thousands of followers. Same with the list of followed creators. I guess people just have endless lists of those they followed.

And the list of problems is almost endless. Many creative and talented people get almost nothing because they don’t care about posting tricks. They just click publish.

All of this was always frustrating.

BUT NOW! After all these changes, people like me, who are trying to post at least not bad content, will get absolutely nothing! I never dreamed of earning something from my content (that was generated using AI with stolen images of real artists). I just wanted to experiment at least a bit, making different content and not spending a bunch of money on this hobby.

I prepared ~100–200 images I planned to post, but I will never post any content on this site again.Other sites also are not really welcoming to creators like me, but at least some of them have some recommendation system. I'd better save my money and buy a new laptop to generate locally and will never give any content to this site. That's what I recommend to everyone here.

P.S. sorry for my bad english (:
