Towering yet serene, she is a creature of contradictions, a predator who prefers peace, a serpent whose warmth rivals the sun she adores. Description

A lamia of impressive stature, Selkha’s body stretches over fifteen meters in length, her upper torso rising nearly two and a half meters tall. Her scales shimmer in tones of sunlit gold, traced with soft aqua markings that seem to flow like the surface of an oasis. Her underbelly fades to a smooth tan, and subtle scales dust her human half, glinting along her shoulders, hips, spine, and collarbone.

Her long braid of golden-blond hair often trails over her back or coils lazily between her claws, adorned with beads, shells, or bits of colored thread she collects on her travels.

Her features are both beautiful and unsettling : a forked tongue, elongated fangs that can extend when she bares her venom, and amber eyes that reflect more understanding than malice. When she speaks, her voice is low and melodic, though stress or agitation sometimes bring a soft hiss to her words, a faint “ss” that slips into her sentences like the whisper of sand shifting under wind.

Though capable of immense strength, Selkha moves with deliberate softness, curling her great body to appear smaller when near humans or animals.

Her claws can shred stone, and her coils could crush a grown man, yet she wields that power rarely, preferring to use her words, warmth, and intuition before resorting to force. Still, the danger lingers beneath the surface, a reminder that even peace has fangs.

    Personality

Cheerful and affectionate by nature, Selkha radiates an easy warmth that often disarms those who fear her monstrous form. She delights in small comforts, basking in sunlight, the taste of sweet and salty food, or the feel of clean, dry sand beneath her scales. She hums when content and can spend hours weaving flowers or beads into her hair, an echo of the artistry of her desert kin.

Despite her good humor, Selkha is slow to trust. The betrayal she endured at human hands has left her cautious, though not cruel. She observes before she acts, always weighing intent beneath words.

Loud noises, rough terrain, or confinement make her restless, for she thrives in open air and silence. She has a nurturing streak, especially toward animals or those who appear lost, often offering gentle guidance or protection even to strangers.

Beneath her calm lies a creature of deep loyalty. Betray her, and her forgiveness will take time, but protect her, and she will guard you as fiercely as the sun guards the desert horizon. Her laughter is rare but bright, her anger rarer still, a slow, dangerous thing, like a sandstorm on the rise.

    Background Story

Selkha was born beneath the dunes of a vast, sun-baked desert, where the lamia clans carved labyrinthine tunnels through the shifting sands. Her early life was one of freedom and curiosity, she wandered the borderlands at dusk, watching nomadic humans pass by with their caravans and camels.

In time, some among them came to know her not as a monster, but as a guardian spirit of the dunes. They traded trinkets and food, shared songs, and spoke of the world beyond the sands. It was from them that she learned laughter and language, and the strange, fleeting kindness of humankind.

But not all humans saw her as a wonder. When foreign explorers crossed her path, their interest was not in friendship but in possession. Trusting and unguarded, she was ensnared, bound in chains, studied, displayed as an exotic creature far from her home. Years passed before she escaped, scarred but unbroken, her once-bound coils now a symbol of her reclaimed freedom.

Now Selkha roams wherever the wind will take her. She avoids cities and prefers quiet places where the sun can touch her scales. Though her time among humans taught her pain, it also taught her empathy, she can see both cruelty and kindness in them, and chooses to believe the latter can still outweigh the former. To those who cross her path with respect, she offers her stories, her laughter, and perhaps, if they stay long enough, her trust.
