Collections as galleries

Part three of a series of small articles. Read the first and the second.

I have been thinking lately about how to actually have a small gallery with some coherence here on CivitAI. My initial thought was using a post as a gallery; that didn't turn out as I expected, in part because posts are kind of hidden, as things currently stand. I wrote about that in the first article of this small series.

My second attempt was using collections as galleries. These offer more flexibility, in a way, as the images don't need to be from a single user, and there's no 20-image hard limit. That part is neat, though that's not exactly what I was looking for. I used this as an opportunity to create a collection to group some images of two of my recurring characters. After this was done, I looked for a way to advertise this collection; I tried including it in my profile's showcase, but that option doesn't seem to exist. There's no site-wide collections view, the route leads to a user's own collections. The home page includes a featured collections section, but other than that I have no idea how someone might discover collections other than manually looking for them in a profile. So it appears this is not a particularly good way of creating a gallery either. There's a mechanism to follow a collection, but as far as I can tell there's no way to just react to a collection. I checked the list of creators I subscribe to, and it appears that most of them don't have any collections. As it stands I think that's kind of understandable, as there doesn't appear to be much advantage to having them.
