What if CivitAI had Dev Groups?

Hey CivitAI 👋
I’ve been thinking about something that could be a really cool addition to the platform: Dev Groups / Dev Rooms.
The basic idea is pretty simple.
Give users the option to create or join a group where they can work together on AI projects instead of everyone developing things completely on their own.
For example, a Dev Group could work together on:
Training models and LoRAs
Collecting and preparing training data
Creating and improving captions
Testing different training settings
Developing datasets
Sharing results and experiments
Building and maintaining custom ComfyUI nodes
Basically anything related to creating and improving AI tools and models
Think of it as a small workshop inside CivitAI.
You could have a few people focusing on the dataset, someone else working on captions, another person doing the training, others testing the results — and everything stays connected to the group.
Why could this be interesting for CivitAI?
First of all: activity. A lot of it.
People would have another reason to actually spend time on CivitAI, collaborate, discuss, test things and come back regularly.
It could also create a completely different kind of community interaction.
Instead of just:
“I uploaded a model, here’s the download.”
You could have:
“We’ve been working on this for three weeks. Here’s how the dataset evolved, here are the experiments we ran, here’s what worked, what didn’t, and here’s the final model.”
That kind of development history could be incredibly interesting for the community.
And maybe CivitAI could even introduce some kind of small reward / contribution system.
Nothing crazy. Maybe badges, points, reputation, visibility, or some other way of recognizing people who actively contribute to a project.
Not necessarily a “pay people for everything” system — just something that makes contribution visible and rewarding.
And it could grow beyond models.
Imagine a Dev Room dedicated entirely to ComfyUI custom nodes.
One person writes the code, another tests it, someone creates examples, someone else writes documentation, and users can report bugs directly in the same place.
Or a group working on a huge dataset.
Or a group experimenting with a specific training technique.
Or people from different countries simply teaming up because they have the same idea.
CivitAI already has a huge amount of knowledge and creativity sitting on the platform.
Dev Groups could give all of that a place to actually come together.
And honestly, I think that's the interesting part.
It wouldn't just be another feature.
It could potentially turn CivitAI from a place where people share the things they made into a place where people also build things together.
Just throwing the idea out there. 😄
Maybe something like this could be worth exploring.
What do you guys think?
Would you join a Dev Group / Room if CivitAI introduced something like this?
And if you think this idea has potential, let people know in the comments. Feel free to share this post with other CivitAI communities and platforms where people are working with AI.
Maybe, if enough people think this could be useful, CivitAI will actually hear us and consider giving it a shot. 😉
Thanks for reading, and stay tuned!
Maybe one day we’ll see the first CivitAI Dev Rooms become a reality. 🚀
