    New Crucible: Monster Mixtape 🔊

Raise hell. Bring a killer soundtrack. 🦇

⚡ 10k buzz prize pool. Starts Oct 30th. Check it out!

The Impressive Music Shorts bounty went quite well I think.

Many people tried making music videos that hadn't done so before. Really amazing entries were submitted. Be sure to check the winners if you haven't yet.

Now I want to see if we can keep that going with Crucibles, let's have some great music oriented contests! Hopefully new AI musicians will rise up from the dead for this.

    The Music Focus 🎸 collection

The collection has grown a lot in just 5-6 weeks. Hopefully you're all enjoying the tunes! 🎧

    New: Music Resources 🎼
⇒ Posts • Articles • Models and Tools

I've created collections for every other type. No promises yet what I'll do with those exactly, but they're like a bookmark I'll slowly start to add things to as I find them.

    A small change in direction

Having maintained the Music Focus collection for a short while, a few things I've learned:

    • Currently I probably run the only music collection on Civitai.

    • Finding music is really hard.

    • And remixing is a very gray area.

I've gotten some great feedback and rethought what the Music Focus collection should be, so here's a small change in direction.

    The mission

The Music Focus collection should feel a bit like a music newsletter for Civitai.

Music is hard to find here, so the collection helps you discover new tracks from creators you love, people you didn't know made songs, and creative ways to use music.

It's not an "only the best" showcase, instead I want it to be broad and inclusive. But it's not "anything goes" free feature either, especially when there's no creative effort behind it.

    What's changing

Previously I had set rules that were mostly objective, but too rigid to deal with the gray areas. So!

Broader: For the collection, music no longer has to be AI-made. Your own non-AI music, remixes and even copyrighted samples are fine. It has to be a good-faith creative effort within the law, and AI should still play a significant part somewhere, not necessarily in the music. Remixes are welcome with attribution and your own twist.

More curated: I may pass on songs that:

    • are repetitive, formulaic, low quality or low effort (slop)

    • take shortcuts by using other people's music or ideas

    • aren't transparent about remixing

    • sing gibberish in a nonsense language

New to AI music and struggle to get a good result? Study the people in this collection, or ask them how they do it.

Buzz begging / Civitai meta: It's often fun and very creative, but it breaks the fourth wall, so I'll add it only occasionally.

Repeatedly adding creators: Keep things fresh and I'll probably collect a lot. If you're stuck on the same thing, I'll collect less and less. If you post really fast, I may skip some songs so occasional posters don't get drowned out, especially if you already have a following.

    What's NOT changing

The collection stays SFW and I'll start leaning more towards safe when in doubt.
Good music can hold its own without having to be spicy.

The collection itself stays music focused, if you ever get tired of what's on the playlist, please tell me about it.

    Rolling out soon™

Well actually, you might have seen some change already. I won't remove anything so this will apply going forward. I'll revisit the main article to reflect this soon as well.

Tell me what you think, share your songs

Always happy to hear from you, happy or unhappy feedback, see what you're up to and find new tracks 🎶 Unsure if you're "within the rules"? Just send it 😄 I'll happily take a look.
