    Theme:
In Bleach, a soul that refuses to move on stays tied to the living world by a chain through its chest. The chain slowly gets eaten away, and when it’s gone, a hole opens where the heart was and the soul turns into a Hollow. Most stories about this are about fighting. I wanted one about staying. The question behind Lost Soul was what would keep someone there, and the answer was love. He can’t leave her, so he waits.

    Lyrics:
The lyrics follow that decay in order. The chorus is a short, stubborn refusal: can’t let go, tied down here, not my time. The verses are the countdown on the chain: ticking clock, lose another link, losing my mind, can’t think. Halfway through, grief turns to anger and anger turns to pain, and by the end he says what he’s been avoiding. He didn’t just fall for her, I gave you my soul, and that’s why he can’t leave. The plain “I love you” in the last verse is the only line that isn’t a metaphor.

    Genre:
I made it a hip-hop track on purpose. The verses are fast and packed, with a dozen or more syllables in a bar, so they sound like someone talking himself in circles, and the repeated chorus acts like a record skipping on the same groove. The sound is dusty 90s underground boom bap, with vinyl crackle and turntable scratches. That fits the song’s own image of a soul stuck in a loop.

None of it came easily. The vocal melody was written as a score and the words had to be fitted to it note by note, so the lyrics went through many rewrites to get a line that was both natural to say and the right length. The finished track came after a few hours of mixing and editing.

    Visuals:
The look comes from the same place as the music. Hip-hop grew up alongside street art, so I wanted the images to feel like they were pulled off a wall: thick black outlines, flat fills, no gradients, like a sticker, a screen print or a page from a graphic novel. I kept the palette to charcoal gray, bone white and a single orange-red, which shows up on a bus, a vending machine, a scarf and the label of a record. Everything else stays quiet so that one color does the work.

The world is a quiet urban street, with tangled power lines, a shuttered storefront, a vending machine glowing at the curb and a bus waiting at its last stop. It’s the kind of place you walk through every day and never look at, which suits a story about a man nobody can see. The graffiti on the shutter is the first thing you see, and the ring in the middle of it is the same ring as the hole in his chest.

Two ideas repeat throughout. The first is scale: he’s tiny next to a giant record player, as if the song itself is the world he’s stuck in. The second is the split between the living and the dead. When he’s alive, his skin is warm and he’s drawn in the same world as her. As a ghost, he’s pure white, with the hole and the chain, and she can’t see him. Same bench, same framing, and the only things that change are who’s there and who’s alone.

The images didn’t come easily either. Flat illustration is hard to hold steady across a whole video, and I had to fight the model on the details over and over, such as the scale of the record, the angle of the shots and the shape of his head. The images were made with Krea2 Turbo and animated with LTX 2.5 and MiniMax H3.
