No delicate brushwork, no muted tones: this is the world of monumental fruits, sculptural breads, and saturated color, where a watermelon becomes a planetary body, a pumpkin weighs like bronze, and a simple tray of fruit radiates the energy of a Russian fairground poster.
About the Artist & The Style

Ilya Mashkov (1881–1944) was a founding member of the Bubnovy Valet (Jack of Diamonds) group, the most important Russian avant-garde association of the 1910s. He is celebrated as the master of the Russian Fauvist still life.

Signature Concept: The monumental everyday. Mashkov transformed simple objects — watermelons, pumpkins, loaves of black bread, samovars, trays of fruit — into heroic, almost planetary forms. His objects are never decorative; they are dense, weighted, and alive with internal energy.

The Manner: Thick, sculptural impasto with broad confident brushstrokes. Heavy paint application that gives every fruit, crust, and metal surface a physical weight. Forms are simplified, slightly primitive, and powerfully constructed — a direct dialogue with Cézanne, Matisse, and Russian lubok prints.

Palette & Light: Uncompromising Fauvist saturation. Pure cadmium red, cobalt blue, chrome yellow, emerald green — applied without mixing, often straight from the tube. Light is warm and direct, rarely atmospheric.

The Subjects: Monumental still lifes with fruits, vegetables, bread, samovars, metal trays, teapots; powerful portraits of peasants and family members; occasional genre scenes of Russian folk life. Often includes decorative inscriptions, painted signs, and lubok-style lettering.

Tested Generation Settings (Krea2)
ParameterValueLoRAMASHKOV_krea2_epoch_20Base modelKrea2Steps8 (Preserves the heavy impasto and pure color planes without blending into academic smoothness)SamplerEuler ASchedulerBong TangentResolution1536×1024 (horizontal still life) / 1024×1536 (vertical portrait)LoRA weight0.90–1.0Positive-only disciplineRussian Fauvist oil painting, Bubnovy Valet style, monumental still life, saturated pure color
Trigger Words
Core Triggers:
oil painting in the manner of Ilya Mashkov
,
Russian Fauvist still life
,
Bubnovy Valet style
Boosters:
monumental fruit forms
,
sculptural impasto
,
saturated pure color planes
,
lubok primitive energy
,
heavy confident brushwork
