At last the summit gave its width — and there, beyond, another shoreof rock rose higher still, and cold. No triumph waited in the air. Only the same hard distance told in silence, sharp and spare. The wind came down and took his name. The snow came down and took his track. The cold came in and stayed the same, and gave him nothing back.He stood a while, and felt the weight of every step that brought him here. Then, without word or bitter fate, he turned toward the farther sheer. The heart that climbed will climb again. There is no other way to go. He will not reach it. Even so — he will not stop.<hr />
