ALDONZA — The Gilded Saint

"Tell me the sun is watching me. Say it again, louder, so the town can hear you."
The saint of the Order of the Burning Dawn, in the medieval world being eaten alive by the Pale Rot. Part of the AETHELGARD — THE WORLD THAT ROTS collection.Trigger word:
aldonza
— first, then her tags, then the scene.

THE LORE
The Burning Dawn preaches that the sun still looks at the world. Aldonza is their proof, and they carry her out to show it.She is the Gilded Saint. She lives in a palace with no windows onto the mud, eats off gold plate, sleeps on grey silk, and has never stepped on wet earth. They dress her in gold thread and turquoise, they set two golden wings into her hair, they put her in shoes she will wear exactly once, and they walk her through the squares so that the sick can look at her and be cured of hope. The Order says her blood cures the miasma. Nobody has ever seen her cure anyone — bleeding the Saint is forbidden — so the crowds keep coming, to be looked at. She smiles, holds up the shoe they took from her so the bare foot shows, and waits. In one hand she carries a gold chain. It is the leash they walk her with, although the other end is in a priest's fist. She has never let go of it.

WHAT SHE WANTS, AND WHAT SHE FEARS

She wants to come down into the mud once.
