I just watched my friends play it in the arcade. At that time, I didn’t have much confidence in my gaming skills, so I thought if I tried this difficult-looking game, I would just keep popping up that awesome robot that lands from the sky like a laser and ascends again at the end of the stage. I felt too guilty about doing that to the robot, so I couldn’t bring myself to play it. How timid I was at my childhood...However, I never let go of the admiration I held for that robot. Later, I continued to nurture my affection for the robot that sparked a blue flame in my heart, collecting fan art on Pixiv or etc, and official illustrations by searching Google. This robot, born from the most ingenious intelligence of humanity and after countless ethical tests, with unmeasured potential of own AI, a dislike for fighting, and a sense of justice that drives him to sacrifice himself for peace—yet also a philosopher who reflects on and agonizes over the justice he upholds. To me, and probably to everyone who loved this game series, he wasn’t just a superhuman game protagonist, but a hero with values we could and should strive to emulate in our lives. Looking back, the reason he appeared so strong, and was in fact the strongest robot throughout the series, might be because he never closed himself off or finished defining himself at any point.
