Looks very nice. Very nice indeed. Do you think women feel cheap when they wear such skimpy things? None of the women I know would ever wear something like this. I've known a few guys who would though.

Lingerie is a billion dollar industry brother and it wouldn't been one if women wouldn't pay for it.. so yea (most) women love this but they only show it to their special partner

    ChadwIckSik6ixAug 8, 2023

    None of them?????

    BRO

You clearly dont know them broads like some other dude does.

@damiang Nothing I said was incorrect, but I should clarify: None of the women I know, with whom I have a close enough relationship to talk about things like lingerie, would wear it.

@ChadwIckSik6ix I checked with (almost) all the women I know. I didn't ask one of them because we don't have the kind of relationship where I can ask such personal questions. One said she would wear it if she had the body to do so with confidence, but as she is now, no way. She also said that some of it is impractical, like that black and white one with just narrow bands of lace over the breasts, which she believes would keep exposing her nipples, so she wouldn't wear that even if she were more confident about her body. None of the others would wear it at all, including one answer of "Absolutely not! It's degrading." I don't share her belief about that. I think it can be degrading, but it can also be empowering, depending on how the person wearing it feels about it and about their bodies and themselves.

So with the exception of the one I didn't ask, who may or may not wear it, none of the women I know would, but one could see maybe wearing it someday depending on her body image.

I don't know... the girls wearing these sure look pretty expensive to me.

My girlfriend dresses up regular in things like this for me she says it makes her feel amazing especially when we go out for a coffee or for a meal.

@perfectlydressed2963 That's awesome. I think it's great when women can feel special in sexy clothing. If they can, then chances are they are also able to enjoy other aspects of life involving their bodies. Many of the women I know have either some repressed feelings about their bodies or low self image (or both), and I wish they could feel more positive about the bodies they're in. It's important for a happy life.

@dita I don't understand what "cheap" means in this context. The term sounds like it infers something along the lines of a similar euphemism "dime a dozen", which implies that something is common or so easy to come by that it lacks all noteworthiness.

If that were what they meant, then such a feeling would not mirror reality because whoever appreciates the female form would find it startlingly uncommon to see it showcased as boldly and confidently as garments of this nature do.

The only counter I can think of that somebody might offer is the saying "a guy would not buy the cow if they could get the milk for free" (first encountered in an episode of Married with Children of all places). But I find that saying painfully sexist against both men and women. Women are not cows to be "bought" and female-attracted men collectively appreciate women (in the context of intimate partnership) on bases as diverse as they appreciate all aspects of life. Some of those involve sex or the feminine form, but I find this oft-cited concept of drumming up artificial scarcity in order to cynically attempt to focus male libido into an asset to be co-dependently exploited to be kind of disgusting.

It is healthiest to be up front with the fact that each person, male or female or variations thereupon, have whatever interest in sexuality that they have or do not have. To perceive, to be perceived, to participate in. What form if any the person would like that to take can vary heavily, but our society has honed different scripts that large segments of the population have come to identify with that lead male sexual interest (one popular variant being what gets called "male gaze".. though I prefer to call it the "female-attracted gaze" because it is also often tacitly accepted by females who find other females attractive as well) to largely include some aspects of sexuality while female sexual interest in our society often values other aspects (one popular suite being "the carnival experience").

Crucially though playing up to any of the popular narratives of what a person might find to be sexy only works as a shortcut to try to relate to whomever has subscribed to them: and that is by far not everybody, and most of those who have subscribed to one of these narratives do so only temporarily on their longer journey of self-discovery whether they realize that or not.

So one does not have to pander specifically to tropes such as male gaze or carnival experience in order to impress a potential mate. Those do not define what an entire gender enjoys, they are just the equivalent of fashion trends that are shallowly popular to a fair chunk of the populace. One is also best advised to not try to exploit people who find such things attractive by stringing them along and withholding, that is just emotional abuse. One should present oneself the way that you wish because of how it makes you feel, which includes how it might prompt others to interact with you. And then get to know people whom you find attractive to personalize what ways you might do things that they in turn find attractive.

And tons of men will find provocative lingerie attractive, though for a specific guy you like it's very worth learning more about the details of what he likes either by chatting with him about it if he knows already or trying on things for him if he doesn't. ^_^

@jkroker I quite agree with you. Concepts like gender and sexuality and attraction are complex and unique to each individual. But humans are nothing if not reductionist, don't you think?

To clarify, I was using "cheap" as in "cheap floozy", selling herself for cheap, undervaluing herself, etc. It might have been better for me to phrase it as something like, "Do you think women feel like 2-bit whores when they wear something like this?" but that's a bit crass. Perhaps "Do you think women feel like they are degrading themselves when they wear something like this?" is the best phrasing. In essence, can women wear this style of lingerie and still respect themselves and feel respected by others?

The answer, as you've pointed to, is that there is no universal answer. There are some women who couldn't care less when they're treated as a hunk of meat—or even use that to their advantage—and some whose uprightness (or uptightness, whichever may be appropriate) would never allow them to do such a thing. Most are no doubt somewhere in the middle. I was of course aware of that when I asked, and my question was meant more as food for thought than it probably came across.

By the way, in addition to women who are attracted to women, the term "male gaze" as it is commonly used also alienates men whose gaze is directed at other men. So, yes, "female-attracted gaze" is the better term. However, I don't see it supplanting "male gaze."

    jkrokerNov 27, 2023

@dita Yes I think there is unfortunately staying power in "sensational" hashtag names that have the capacity when viewed through some lenses of being a prejudicial slur. And it is challenging for me to push back against with much sincerity until I could offer more ethical ways for such terms to be effective in instigating change. Activism is a lot like designing a virus, so being ethical and commanding mind-share are quite difficult to do at the same time. Just ask an advertiser. ^_^

    ditaNov 27, 2023

@jkroker Haha, I'm sure that's very true. I feel that's one of several factors that allows a certain US political party to consistently generate more support and involvement from its members than the other does: the ethics-vs-mindshare balance seems to be a little more skewed.
