May Calamawy, born on October 28, 1986, in Bahrain, is an Egyptian-Palestinian actress known for her compelling performances in television and film. With her unique background and dedication to her craft, she has become a rising star in the entertainment industry.

Calamawy studied acting at Emerson College in Boston before further honing her skills at various theater programs. She gained recognition for her role as Dena Hassan in Hulu’s critically acclaimed series Ramy (2019–2022), where she portrayed the strong-willed sister of the titular character, delivering a nuanced performance that resonated with audiences.

Her international breakthrough came with her role as Layla El-Faouly in the Marvel Cinematic Universe series Moon Knight (2022). As the first Arab female superhero in the MCU, her performance was widely praised for bringing depth and strength to the character, further solidifying her as a talent to watch.
