Began her career as a model and beauty queen, winning the Miss San Pedro beauty contest.
Worked as an actress in TV shows and small film roles before her big break.
Rise to Fame: Purple Rain & Apollonia 6
In 1984, Prince cast her as Apollonia, the female lead and love interest of his character The Kid in Purple Rain after Vanity (of Vanity 6) left the project.
As a result, Prince renamed Vanity 6 to Apollonia 6, featuring Apollonia as the lead singer, alongside Brenda Bennett and Susan Moonsie.
Apollonia 6 (1984) released one album, featuring the hit "Sex Shooter", written by Prince.
