Mercedes Justine Kaestner-Varnado, known professionally as Sasha Banks in WWE and later as Mercedes Moné in AEW, became one of the most influential female wrestlers of her generation. Signing with WWE in 2012, she rose to prominence in NXT, where her match against Bayley at TakeOver: Respect made history as the first women's Iron Man match and main event of a TakeOver event. Transitioning to the main roster, she became a five-time Raw Women’s Champion, a SmackDown Women’s Champion, and one-half of the inaugural WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions alongside Bayley. Banks played a key role in WWE’s women’s revolution, competing in groundbreaking matches such as the first women’s Hell in a Cell, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania main events, elevating women's wrestling to new heights.
After leaving WWE in 2022, she rebranded as Mercedes Moné and made an immediate impact in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) and Stardom, winning the IWGP Women's Championship. In 2024, she debuted in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), where she became one of the company’s top female stars. Her signing was a major milestone for AEW’s women’s division, and she quickly won the AEW TBS Championship, cementing her presence as a key figure in the promotion. Moné's transition from WWE to AEW marked a significant shift in the wrestling landscape, as she continued to push boundaries and maintain her status as one of the most recognizable and accomplished female wrestlers in the industry.
