    Artist biography

Akihiko Yoshida (吉田 明彦) , born on February 15, 1967, in Japan, is a highly influential Japanese video game designer, illustrator, and artist whose work has left a lasting mark on the gaming industry. After joining Square (now Square Enix) in 1995, Akihiko Yoshida quickly rose to prominence with his intricate and atmospheric character designs. His early notable works include Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen (designed by Quest before joining Square) and Tactics Ogre, where he began refining his signature style—characterized by detailed costumes, expressive characters, and a blend of fantasy with a painterly, almost watercolor-like quality.

At Square Enix, Akihiko Yoshida solidified his reputation as a lead artist with Final Fantasy Tactics (1997), where he crafted a medieval-inspired world filled with memorable characters. This was followed by Vagrant Story (2000), a critically acclaimed title showcasing his ability to create moody, cinematic visuals. His work on Final Fantasy XII (2006) further elevated his status, as he designed the expansive world of Ivalice with a focus on elaborate character designs and cultural depth. He later played a key role in the visual direction of Final Fantasy XIV, contributing to its rebirth as A Realm Reborn (2013), one of the most successful MMORPGs.
