She is the daughter of Joan Grande, a chief executive officer for Hose-McCann Communications, and Edward Butera, a graphic designer, photographer, and artist. Both of her parents are of Italian descent. Grande began her career in the entertainment industry at a young age, starring in the 2008 musical "13" before gaining widespread recognition for her role as Cat Valentine in Nickelodeon's sitcoms "Victorious" (2010) and "Sam & Cat" (2013).
