Is F1 meant to replace E7 (so it is expected to perform better in most cases) or to be an alternative style (so I should download and try both of them)?
Easier to use than E7. E7 may be more advantageous when increasing resolution.
I noticed some VAE's are different file types (pickles, safetensor), should they be renamed to .pt?
No.
You should try to only download safetensors when possible.. and .pt model should only be used if from trusted source. Pickle files can have bad coding that can do harm to your computer BUT Civitai scans them.
So it's a matter of how much you want to put trust into their scanners being perfect.
@TheP3NGU1N thanks for the advice, i've heard of how safetensors were a means of adding security, i thought pickles were only ckpt, so now i'll watch for the pt's as well. 90% of embeddings on this site are pt's so sometimes i'll just have to take a chance and break away..... or check if it's been on the site for a while with a good rep, or has a trusted source
@jimjimmyjimjimAwkins in all honesty, if it's on the site and past their checks, it's probably going to be fine.. BUT.. there is always that slim chance it's not. Just check comments, make sure the uploader isn't like a brand-new uploader, so on so on. The obvious "this raises an alarm" type signs.
