She is the youngest of three children, with a Nigerian forensic psychologist father and a Norwegian fashion model mother. John-Kamen attended primary school in Kirk Ella and received her secondary education at Hull Collegiate School. She trained at the National Youth Theatre in London and graduated from the Central School of Speech and Drama in 2012.
