About the subject:

Filipino-American transgender fashion model & advocate, best known as being the first trans woman to be part of the iconic Playboy Playmates of the Year in 2020.

Born in Manila, The Philippines into a working-class family, she started completing in beauty pageants when she was 15. She then immigrated to the US, eventually beginning her fashion career when she was discovered by a photographer in a Manhattan restaurant when she was 21 years old. She signed with NEXT Model Management, spending over 12 years modeling for international swimsuit and beauty editorials, including Harper's Bazaar. This lead to an appearance as the Playboy Playmate of the Month for August 2019, becoming the first openly transgender Asian-Pacific Islander model to pose for the magazine.

In addition to her modeling work, she is also a transgender advocate, with several TED talks and campaigns under her belt. In 2023, she released a memoir of her experiences growing up as a trans beauty pageant winner and immigrant to the US, titled Horse Barbie.
