“Ever Their praises, and abundance to the Black Goat of the Woods. Iä! Shub-Niggurath! Iä! Shub-Niggurath! The Black Goat of the Woods with a Thousand Young!”
The Dark Young of Shub-Niggurath, sometimes abbreviated simply to Dark Young, are a fictional species that first appeared in the short story "Notebook Found in a Deserted House", by Robert Bloch, although the story's narrator refers to them as "shoggoths". Their name originates from the role-playing game 《Call of Cthulhu》.
Dark Young are terrifying monsters, visions of which are made of hairy tentacles. They are very large, like bizarre-looking giant trees, and have been described as having stubby hoofed legs. The entire body of these monsters smells like an open grave. They usually reside in woodlands where the Shub Niggurath cult is active. One method of summoning them is found in the 《Book of Eben》 and requires a blood sacrifice to fulfil the conditions of the summoning.
