Description
《山海经（海外西经）（大荒西经）》：
炎洲，在南海中，有火林山，山中有火光兽，大如鼠，毛长三四寸，或赤或白。山可三百里许，晦夜即见此山林，乃是此兽光照，状如火光相似。取其兽毛，时人号为火浣布，此是也。
《神异经》所载：
不尽木火中有鼠，重千斤，毛长二尺余，细如丝。但居火中，洞赤，时时出外，而毛白，以水逐而沃之，即死。取其毛织纺，织以為布，用之若有垢涴，以火烧之则净。
南荒之外有火山，长四十里，广五十里。其中皆生不烬之木，火鼠生其中。
