This makes me want to hunt it up and watch it again. It was one of the first anime I remember watching

@dita It's my favorite anime. I've watched it annually since 2013. I always appreciate it when somebody makes a model for the characters from it. The male cast is especially under appreciated, so thank you.

@CursedTraveler Oh, the guys are definitely under-appreciated, as well as the relationship between Natsuno and Tatsumi. There's so much I don't remember about it—and so much I probably missed because I was still new to anime at the time, so it's definitely worth a rewatch on my part. And even though it's been a while, I can still remember the OP theme by Buck-Tick, even though I can't recall most OP or ED themese from the current season, lol!

@dita Natsuno and Tatsumi have a great rivalry that culminates in such an epic way. And yeah, it's a very intricate show with a lot of subtle characterization, and a gigantic cast who all get dramatically interesting conclusions, so I cannot blame you for forgetting much of it. I've watched it a dozen times, and I'm still picking up on new elements each time I watch it. Also, if you do rewatch it, don't miss the OVAs. They're both really good and tie into the story well.

@CursedTraveler I do remember one of the OVAs, actually. At the time, it seemed to me to be darker than the actual main series. I can still recall that it ended with a woman saying over and over (in Japanese), "Kuso jijii, kuso jijii, kuso jijii..."

@dita They are darker. And yes, you remembered correctly. While most anime creators use OVAs to add fanservice they couldn't get away with on TV, it really felt like the creators of Shiki used the freedom of the OVAs as an excuse to delve into the absolute most disturbing aspects of the show's conflict that couldn't be touched upon in the main series.
