Bernard "Hap" Kliban, an American cartoonist born in 1935, embarked on a unique artistic journey that blended humor and eccentricity.

After studying at the Pratt Institute and Cooper Union, he moved to California, where he delved into freelance advertising illustration. Kliban gained recognition as a Playboy cartoonist, particularly for his whimsical cat drawings.

His first book, "Cat," published in 1975, marked the beginning of a series of peculiar cartoon compilations, such as the 1993 release, "Advanced Cartooning."

Kliban's work extended beyond publications, gracing various products like stickers and calendars. His cartoons often explored bizarre scenarios and satirized conventional visual instructions.

Kliban's legacy endures through his influence on fellow cartoonists, including Gary Larson of The Far Side fame.

Unfortunately, Kliban passed away in 1990 at the age of 55, leaving behind a body of work that continues to captivate audiences with its distinctive blend of humor and surrealism.
