It can be used to draw human body color drawings and convert clothing.
The effect is better for clothes that are already close to the body. For example:swimsuit, bikini, vest and shorts. Luck is needed for other clothing that doesn't fit well.Just try more.
You can also use the "tattoo" tag to enhance the effect.(Or use a more colorful VAE)
Weight 1 is ok.Increasing the weight may better adapt some characters Lora.
Prompt examples:painted clothes,fake clothes,form fitting,swimsuit, bodypaint
I always recommend turning on hiresfix in case of ambiguity.
The example diagram is still generated with cetusMixv2.

I can't for the life of me get this to work well with character loras. Do you have any recommendations?
Maybe it's because your character's clothes don't fit well enough. You can try changing their clothes, such as swimsuits. And some characters LORA are really difficult to use with this one.
Please update your Automatic1111 installation (or stabilityAI). I just did a 'git update' after shutting down my stable diffusion engine. It's NOT the 'extensions' TAB with 'Check for Updates', but the entire installation folder! You can also just redownload the Automatic1111 by typing 'git clone' in the official site. You can then move your checkpoints/lora/lycoris/everything from the older to the newer. After struggling for WEEKS, I just noticed the problem was my older version.
EDIT: It works in most checkpoints now! My problem was an OLD version of Automatic1111. Once I did 'git pull' to 1.5.x version, it worked!! You deserve a medal, it's BEAUTIFUL!
(For those who use an <---April Automatic version):
It's really a tough Lora (tested version 1.0). First of all, please consider using checkpoints: AndromedaMix or CetusMix_v3 or Kotosmix_v10. Then use the suggested VAE from CetusMix (Pastel-Waifu if manga drawings, or 840000 for more real life pictures). Then use all the suggested tags at once: "fake clothes, form fitting, bodypaint" with your own tags in-between. Then increase the weight of your lora past 1 in most character types (e.g. up to 2.0)! For other checkpoints, please prepare yourself to make like 50 to 100 batch counts (recommended 512x600 without 'HIRES FIX' and with <20 sampling steps). Once you get some nice pics, just reupsample them in IMG2IMG so the AI will create details.
It would be great if someone could 'map' which more characters/models it works better, along with proper prompt examples. Many characters like Princess Peach will need weight 1.5 or more to work well. If not, even with swimsuit, bodysuit, panties, corset, etc, some clothing will be painted partially, others not. Many pictures still have full dresses with bloomers and everything, even with 'swimsuit', 'painted clothes', 'form fitting', and so on.
It also works better with 'bodysuit', OR ('job' costume) e.g. (nun costume) or (marvel costume) or (cheerleader costume). Work less with 'swimwear', 'bikini' and 'swimsuit' and much less with 'shirt', even if you put 'painted shirt', 'shirt made of ink', 'fake shirt', etc. With 'painted shirt made of ink', I finally got one with a 'bodypaint shirt' out of 10. Also, adding 'fabric', 'tissue' in negative prompt might help a bit. Be careful of adding colors in the prompt like 'green eyes'. The AI might create version with a green bodypaint!
You can use a 'nude' tag to help the AI. It works better with iconic character like Wonderwoman, Captain Marvel girl, Sailor Mercury, Harley Quinn, etc. Tifa Lockhart worked a bit. You can increase the weight, e.g. (nude:1.2), but if you characters get all naked all the time, please decrease it or remove the nude tag.
I tried 'Princess Peach' and other common 'girl' tag on models: BeenYou r11, Lyriel 1.5, Hyperfusion 100k, Perfect World v4, uberRealisticPorn, CyberRealisticV30, EpiHyperPhotoGoddess, colorfulV30, Lazymix+, RealHOTMIX1.0, realisticVision and MajicMixRealisticv5 with all the bodypaint tags the OP recommended and it barely worked! MAY work a bit if you force LORA weight above 1.6! Other than that, I failed miserably. In 10 pics, perhaps you get one with some bodypaint or just a tatoo. CetusMix v4 and Andromeda Mix gave the best results so far (better if outside city, like 'in the forest'). If you don't provide the place, most times your model will be in an art studio due to 'body paint' or 'painted clothes' tags (AI will understand 'paintings').
So I ended up putting 100 batch counts in order to get 20 'good ones' at 600x600 (I upsampled them later) with 'costume' characters like mentioned above (or common girls), with tags like (nude:1.1), in order to reinforce she's still nude, while lowering others like (swimwear:0.8) or (white bodysuit:0.8) or less, and adding exposed breasts, etc, to reinforce the AI she is still nude. Tags like that worked: "wonderwoman in a forest, (nude:1.1), full body, <lora:conceptPaintedClothes_v10:1.5>, fake clothes, painted clothes, form fitting, (white bodysuit:0.5), bodypaint, breasts, (photorealistic:1.4), (masterpiece), High Detail, Sharp focus"
EDIT: The below worked wonders in AndromedaMix + VAE "Pastel-Waifu". Lora:xmen might potentialize the results: "18yo girl, full body, <lora:conceptPaintedClothes_v10:1.6>, fake clothes, form fitting, (nun costume), bodypaint, front pose, breasts, (photorealistic:1.4), (masterpiece), High Detail, Sharp focus, <lora:xmen bodysuit Rogue-fC-V1:5>"
Finally, I also noticed it works better with INPAINTS with the two aforementioned checkpoints and Pastel-Waifu VAE. If you have a nude (nsfw) image, and you want to ADD bodypaint, you might need less prompt tags and hacks, with DENOISE 0.70 or less. If the resulting clothing is still 'made of fabric', you can create a new layer in photosphop, select and paste it over the nude image, and put transparency between 40% and 60% , a bit more saturation and contrast, and voila.
Oh my god, your tests are so exhaustive, you know more about this lora than I do. Thank you so much for your comment.
Probably affected by its actual usage, I found this Lora accidentally also decent on making tight clothes. Especially, it is quite good to create boob bag for female. Of course, the Lora also works well on its true usage of body painting and painted clothes.
I've had some eurekas by using it for certain clothes and situations too. For example, if you create people with 'naked overalls' (512x512), with a certain color (or default black/jeans), once you upsample it (loopback scaler, or ULTIMATE SD), provided you retain the LORA weight above 0.7, it tends to transform to bodypaints if you run over and over again. Loopback scaler is great to do those (e.g. You create a 720x720 pic, then reuse it for another run, 720x720).
