Liz Phair (b. 1967) is an American rock singer, songwriter, and guitarist. She will forever be known for her debut album, the brilliant Exile in Guyville (1993), one of the very best albums the 1990s produced and a signpost for the next two decades of indie rock — especially indie rock produced by women. It finished No. 1 in the Village Voice's annual Pazz & Jop poll and earned a rare 10/10 from Pitchfork, which called it "a kind of sanctified codex for girls: the map that pointed us toward adulthood, or something like it." (Phair is currently touring behind the 30th anniversary of the album.) Her second album, Whip-Smart, was also very good, and her third, Whitechocolatespaceegg, had its moments.
