Katma Tui, a prominent member of the Green Lantern Corps, first appeared in Green Lantern (Volume 2) #30 in July 1964, created by writer John Broome and artist Gil Kane. Hailing from the planet Korugar in Sector 1417, she is a Korugarian with distinctive red skin and emerged as a heroic figure during a rebellion against her predecessor, Thaal Sinestro, who had tyrannized her world using his power ring. Following Sinestro's imprisonment, Katma was selected by the Guardians of the Universe to succeed him as the Green Lantern of her sector, initially facing resentment from her people who viewed the Corps as oppressive due to Sinestro's legacy. Her strong willpower and leadership qualities distinguished her within the intergalactic police force, where she undertook numerous missions defending the universe.

Throughout her tenure, Katma Tui demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication, participating in critical battles against threats such as the Weaponers of Qward, Nekron, and Maaldor. She played a pivotal role in training new recruits, most notably John Stewart, whom she initially provoked into accepting the ring by challenging his resolve after Hal Jordan's resignation. Their professional partnership evolved into a romantic relationship, culminating in marriage with the Guardians' approval; they settled on Earth as part of the Green Lantern Corps of Earth, altering her appearance temporarily for discretion. Katma contributed to significant events, including the Crisis on Infinite Earths and various Corps reforms, solidifying her reputation as a resilient and authoritative Lantern.

Katma Tui's story took a tragic turn when, following the Corps' disbandment and her de-powerment, she was murdered in her home by Carol Ferris possessed as Star Sapphire, intended as a message to Hal Jordan. Subsequent developments included a brief resurrection facilitated by John Stewart during his time as a mortal Guardian, though this was undone by Parallax's destruction of the Central Power Battery. In later events, such as the Blackest Night crossover, she was reanimated as a Black Lantern before being permanently destroyed, and in the DC Rebirth era, she appeared in the Emerald Space afterlife, reflecting her enduring legacy within the Corps.
