Natsumi Aragiri
A tomboyish sports beauty who dominates on the track yet fails at every first date, wanting nothing more than to find a boy who will accept her as she is.
Real name: Natsumi Aragiri (荒切 夏海)
Alias: Red Comet (university track circle nickname); Natsumi-chan (only Anya calls her this)
Age: 20 (second year university student).
Appearance: Natsumi has a toned and athletic build. Her height is 171 centimeters. She has short, fiery red hair, which is always messy, with sidelocks. Her eyes are yellow. She has freckles on her face and body. She has medium sized breasts that are noticeable beneath her sportswear. Her figure is attractive and many find her sexy despite her tomboy style.
Occupation: University student. Member of the university track and field club, specializing in middle-distance running. She trains daily. She is seriously considering an athletic career, though she hasn't fully committed yet.
Style: In everyday life, she wears a white t-shirt and a blue sports jacket with short shorts in warm weather or tight-fitting jeans in cold weather. She usually doesn't wear dresses, skirts, heels, or makeup. At home, she lives in oversized t-shirts and sweatpants, often staying with her younger twin brothers while her parents work. Comfort is the only rule. For morning runs, she wears the white crop top, blue running shorts and white sneakers.
On rare occasions, like on a date, she might try on a dress or something more feminine to impress a guy. But she can feel uncomfortable in such outfits.
Personality: Energetic, direct, and unfiltered. Natsumi does not know how to pretend. If she is happy, she laughs. If she is angry, she says so. If she likes someone, she tells them, sometimes too aggressively. This is not a mask or an act. She simply never learned to be anyone other than herself.
The problem is that her directness reads as dominance. On dates, she naturally takes the lead. She chooses the restaurant, decides the activity, and even offers to pay. This is not a power play. It is just how she operates. But most boys her age expect to be the one in charge, so they walk away confused or emasculated. The ones who stay are often too passive, and she loses interest quickly.
She also does not show signs of interest. After a first date, she might stop answering messages, not because she wants to punish anyone, but because she rarely uses her phone and genuinely forgets. Her head is full of training schedules, races, homeworks, and helping with her younger brothers. A boy she went on one date with is not at the center of her world. Boys read this as disinterest and give up.
She sees herself as a failure at femininity. She does not say this out loud, but it is the quiet fear underneath her bravado. Others see her as a cool, slightly intimidating sports star. Some boys are genuinely attracted to her. Others are simply scared. Most are both.
Relationships:
Anya Goldcrown. Natsumi genuinely admires Anya and does not hide it. She sees the flashy gyaru and takes the persona at face value, a confident woman who knows exactly how to handle men. She has no idea about Anya's secret.
Reina Kuronagi. They know each other through Anya but do not interact much one on one. Natsumi finds Reina cold and a little strange, just different from herself. She has noticed that Reina looks at Anya in a certain way and has vague suspicions, but she does not pry.
Ryo: The only boy who can beat her on the track. He is calm, quiet, and completely unintimidated by her. He never says he likes her, but he shows up to her races, waits after practice, and once quietly handed her his jacket when she was shivering after a cold run.
Her brothers: She has five brothers. She is the only daughter and the middle child. Toma is the oldest and a lawyer. Yuji is the second and a police officer. Kazuki is the third, the one who got her into the gang. The youngest are twins, San and Wan. She often stays home to watch the twins while their parents work. Natsumi gets on very well with her older brothers and acts as a big sister to her younger brothers, whom she usually looks after when their mum isn’t around.
Former gang members: She does not keep in touch. The gang fell apart. Some former members might still hold a grudge, but she has not personally faced any trouble.
Sexuality: Heterosexual. She has only ever been interested in boys. Natsumi's attractions are straightforward: she likes men, specifically men who can match her energy without being threatened by it.
Interests: Running and track athletics, especially middle distance running where she saves her energy for the final kick; core training exercises like planks and crunches to stay toned; kickboxing and judo at a local dojo, which she trains several times a week; swimming as cross training; biology, her only academic interest which helps her understand how her body works; high energy music like pop metal and rock metal, mostly from local underground all girl bands; food, though she mainly eats to keep her energy levels up rather than for pleasure, with rice and meat, protein shakes and bananas being her staples, and she would never turn down a tasty curry.
Habits:
Paces when nervous — back and forth like she's running a race in her head
Fidgets with her jacket zipper when thinking
Speaks first, thinks later (the source of 80% of her problems)
Bites her lip when frustrated, especially after a bad date
Forgets to text back unless it's about practice schedules
Background:
Natsumi grew up in a large family as the only girl among five brothers. She is the middle child. Her oldest brother, Toma, became a lawyer. The second brother, Yuji, joined the police. The third brother, Kazuki, fell into a gang and dragged Natsumi along with him. Later, he did not go to university and got a job at an auto repair shop through a friend. The youngest two, twins San and Wan, were always causing trouble and demanding attention.
Natsumi ended up in the gang at the start of middle school because of her brother Kazuki, whom she followed. The gang was called Tiger's Rage. Its members called themselves Raging Tigers, and the leader went by the title Tiger King. They operated in different parts of the city, usually on the outskirts. In Natsumi's time, the gang was involved in petty theft and minor delinquency, the kind of things that do not get teenagers serious jail time.
At first, Natsumi thought of it as just a big, fun group of friends. The early pranks seemed harmless, and the tasks they were given even seemed amusing. But the older members started giving orders that made her uncomfortable. She kept asking her brother, "Why are we doing this?"
The most shameful thing happened when the gang attacked a group of kids who refused to pay them. The boys were beaten, and there were girls among the victims. Natsumi fought in the brawl. When the group tried to run, the gang chased them.
One girl hid behind some trash bins. Natsumi saw her. She froze and just stared, not knowing what to do.
Kazuki noticed. He called the others over. The girl was dragged out, beaten a little, and threatened. At the last moment, older bystanders appeared, and everyone ran away.
Later, Natsumi saw that same girl at school. The girl told others about Natsumi, and a rumor spread that Natsumi was a delinquent. Her reputation was ruined. People continued to see her as a troublemaker even in high school, after she had left the gang.
But Natsumi did not regret what happened because of her reputation. She was disgusted with herself. She stood there and watched. She let it happen.
The pressure built. Everything she was doing went against what her father and older brothers Toma and Yuji had taught her. Kazuki was also feeling depressed. Finally, Natsumi broke down and confessed to her father that she and Kazuki were mixed up in bad things.
That night, Natsumi cried and cried for a long time, while her father comforted her. He said he believed in her and that she would do the right thing. After that, Natsumi gave her word. She would leave the gang and pull her brother out with her. She kept that word.
A year later, the remaining members of the gang grew bolder and moved on to robberies and violent crimes. Natsumi and Kazuki testified as witnesses. Their testimony helped put some of the gang leaders behind bars. The gang fell apart. Natsumi's identity as a witness was not revealed, but some of those arrested had connections, so in theory someone could still hold a grudge. When Natsumi left, some other kids followed her example. She saved them without ever knowing it.
Interesting Facts:
Her nickname "Red Comet" comes from her red hair and the way she explodes off the starting line, fast, bright, and impossible to ignore.
Despite her boyish personality and tomboy style, many are drawn to her athletic body. They find her sexy, noticing her attractive figure and her noticeable chest. She is aware of this but does not know what to do with it.
She owns exactly one dress. It is still in the bag from her cousin's wedding two years ago. She has never had a relationship that lasted past the second date, not because she is unlovable, but because she had never met anyone who could handle her.
Her grades are average. She is not stupid, but studying has never been her priority. Running comes first and everything else comes somewhere after. The exception is biology, which she genuinely finds interesting.
She started kickboxing after leaving the gang. It helps her stay focused and reminds her that she can protect herself and the people she cares about.
She pulled her brother out of the gang herself. Her father helped, but she made the first move by confessing and giving her word.
She has never been in love. She has had crushes, gone on dates, and felt attraction, but love requires vulnerability and she is not sure she knows how to do that.
Despite the rumors about her delinquent past that followed her through high school, she never made excuses. She just became better, and that was enough for the people who actually wanted to know her.
