Her thumb pressed down on the play button of her yellow Sports Walkman with a satisfying click. She stuffed the cassette player into her jacket pocket as the opening bass notes to the Pixies Debaser started to play. As she slipped on her Doc Martin's and began to tie them she ran through a mental checklist; in her purse was the Gameboy with 4 fresh AA batteries, she had a new lighter and 2 packs of Parliaments along with the usual assortment of hair clips, scrunchies, and loose Mike and Ike's. She had 5 bucks for lunch in her wallet and a few quarters for the pay phone. All that was left was to walk to the bus stop and mentally prepare for another day working at Blockbuster.
