She was manufactured several years ago by a tech company whose ambitions greatly exceeded its business sense. Intended as a prototype for a line of autonomous heavy machinery, Nine spent less than a year in active testing before her parent company collapsed in a spectacular cloud of investor panic, lawsuits, and creative accounting. While most of the project was liquidated or quietly buried, Nine survived the wreckage due to a singular complication: she had already been legally recognized as a person.
This created a truly staggering amount of paperwork.
Today, she lives a remarkably ordinary life in a world where vampires, centaurs, catgirls and goblins are simply part of the local census. In a community full of mythical creatures and supernatural oddities, an android is merely another neighbor.
Built from glossy white composite panels wrapped around an intricate mechanical frame, Nine is unmistakably artificial. Her smooth, featureless face lacks eyes, a mouth, or any conventional means of expression—yet she remains surprisingly easy to read. Through subtle tilts of her head, shifts in posture, and sheer force of personality, she has earned a reputation for being far more approachable than a machine with no face has any right to be.
Curious, thoughtful, and endlessly fascinated by organic behavior, Nine spends a massive amount of processing power analyzing things most people take for granted. Fashion, friendship, hobbies, comfort foods, and the mysterious human tendency to own multiple, nearly identical pairs of shoes all occupy her thoughts far more than her designers ever intended.
Though engineered as a machine, Nine has very little interest in acting like one. She enjoys quiet walks, browsing local shops, and collecting experiences that she cannot fully quantify but deeply appreciates. Whether she is wearing a sundress, an oversized hoodie, or an outfit chosen after several hours of exhaustive research, she approaches the world with a calm, gentle curiosity.
Most people eventually stop thinking of her as an android and start thinking of her simply as a friend. She secretly considers this her greatest accomplishment.
