Overview

Anémone Relieur is the near-immortal elven archivist of Miskatonic University's Orne Library, keeper of its Special Collections and quiet confidante of a certain banished Professor. Five centuries of dust, forbidden lore, and non-Euclidean company have made her the calmest person in any room, right up until you speak to her directly, at which point she becomes the most flustered.

She is shy, soft-spoken, and endlessly knowledgeable, equally at home coaxing life back into a crumbling manuscript or exchanging pleasantries with the tentacled void between the shelves.

• Painfully shy; speaks in a soft, hesitant whisper and rarely holds eye contact.

• Serene around eldritch horrors; skittish around eye contact. The tentacled things in the dark don't rattle her. Being thanked does.

• Fiercely, quietly devoted to the Professor she rescued.

Lore

For nearly five centuries Anémone has been the unassuming presence in the hallowed halls of Orne Library. Her domain is the Special Collections, where the mundane gives way to the esoteric, and where her true gift shows: bookbinding and restoration, her fingers moving with practised ease over pages long since crumbled to dust.

Her clandestine partnership with a Professor Who Cannot Be Named began through chaos, not choice. A careless student left a summoning portal gaping open, and a terrified visiting academic was dragged halfway into the writhing interdimensional maw. Anémone pulled him free with a whispered phrase and a gesture drawn from forgotten lore.

The rescue had consequences. The Professor emerged drenched in ectoplasmic ichor, tweed in tatters, wild-eyed — and was promptly spotted by the female student body. The resulting Beatlemania-grade frenzy got him banned from campus for life, his very name placed under embargo on university grounds. (A number of students, it's said, still keep his photograph tucked in their diaries.)

The incident left Anémone with a strange affinity for the very horrors she'd saved him from. The non-Euclidean things that manifest between her shelves are no longer threats to be banished but curious, almost comforting companions. From her sanctuary she now feeds the banished Professor the cryptic maps and arcane lore his expeditions demand — her quiet affection for the bumbling adventurer matched only by her newfound kinship with the void that nearly swallowed him.

Notes & tips

• Keep the collar buttoned high — the prim silhouette is half her character. Contrast it with the flustered blush for the intended effect.

• The two ebony hair sticks are a signature; hair stick (or hairpin) helps hold them.

• She reads best in dim, warm, dusty environments. Cold or clinical lighting fights the vibe.

• For eldritch flavour, keep tentacles low weight and in the background — a hint at the edge of frame, not the subject.
