Dara-san, whose true, ancient name is Yamatagi Madara, is known as a Tatari-gami (a curse god or vengeful deity) who haunts the forbidden western mountains. Centuries ago, she was a regular human woman who was brutally sacrificed by the local villagers to appease a snake god. In their fear and cruelty, they severed her limbs and left her to die. Her immense grief and hatred transformed her into a massive, multi-armed snake demon that wiped out the village. She was eventually sealed away in the mountains, bound by a curse to attack anyone who entered her territory.
