In his past life, he was an unemployed shut-in (hikikomori) who squandered all his time watching anime, reading manga, and browsing the internet. After being struck and killed by a truck, he was reincarnated into another world, retaining his sanity and memories of his previous life. He married Sylphy and Roxy, and—in his own words—"married" Eris. After defeating the Immortal Demon King Atoferatofe Raibaku, he earned the title of "Hero," a status that causes all Demon Kings to fear him.

In an alternate timeline, Rudeus was deceived by Hitogami and lost his loved ones. He then traveled back in time using magic to warn his past self about these events.
