NOT KIDS' TIME: CARTOONS FOR ADULTS
After the children go to bed, the cartoon line stays — the children leave. NOT KIDS' TIME takes the grammar of childhood animation and redirects it to strictly grown-up worlds: the confident felt-pen contour of mid-century Soviet children's-book illustration and the luminous cel-shading of 1980s Disney Renaissance, now drawing boudoir glamour in silk and candlelight, adult professions with warm editorial irony, evening scenes of care, flirtation and quiet vice. The childhood manner is only the shell; the content is adult, and no child ever appears in frame.
Two registers, one voice
Black-and-white book line: uniform bold contour, clean white paper skin, shading only as solid black fills and parallel stripe hatching, vast white space, gentle satirical humor.
Color cel plates: flat gouache planes with hard edges and white paper gaps, rosy cheek patches, muted jewel palette, hand-painted cel shading and expressive animated eyes.
What it draws best Adults 25+ in tasteful glamour — silk robes, slip dresses, corsets, smoking jackets, opera gloves; profession and everyday vignettes with comic timing; pair scenes and off-frame witnesses for tension; thought-bubble surrealism; vintage interiors, props and vehicles; dogs as lifelong co-stars.
Discipline baked into every line Subjects 25 and older only. Coverage stays tasteful: glamour, never explicit. Men enter as silhouettes or partial witnesses when a scene needs charge. Warm humor without caricature cruelty. No typography unless the line calls for it.
For those who remember the cartoons — and for those who finally understand the jokes.
