Alina Habba (b. 1984) is an American lawyer. The daughter of Iraqi Catholic immigrants, she graduated from Widener Commonwealth Law School, which U.S. News ranks as the 159th best (out of 196) in the country. She worked on a few penny-ante cases — a guy suing a nursing home, a college student suing to get his tuition back, serving as counsel for her husband's parking garage company — before she got the bright idea to join Donald Trump's golf club in Bedminster, N.J., and cozy up to the former president. As more experienced lawyers learned to avoid working for Trump — famous for stiffing his attorneys when it's time to pay the bill — he eventually turned to the cute lady he knew from the 19th hole.

On behalf of Trump, Habba filed a $100 million defamation suit against his niece, Mary Trump. It was quickly dismissed. She filed a lawsuit against Hillary Clinton and 30 others for masterminding a "plot" to steal the 2016 election from Trump. A judge tossed that one too ("a lawsuit that should never have been filed, which was completely frivolous, both factually and legally, and which was brought in bad faith for an improper purpose") and fined both Trump and Habba nearly $1 million for abusing the legal system and to cover the defendants' legal costs. Habba defended Trump in the lawsuit filed by E. Jean Carroll for raping her; the jury awarded Carroll $83 million in damages. Habba defended Trump in his New York civil fraud trial; she lost, and Trump was ordered to pay nearly $500 million in damages. During both trials, Habba was roundly mocked for lacking basic knowledge of trial procedure, including earning 12 reprimands in a single day.

If she's remembered by history, it'll likely be for this quote: "Somebody said to me, 'Alina, would you rather be smart or pretty?' And I said, 'Oh, easy — pretty. I can fake being smart.'"
