I feel for you man.

This really sucks. I get that they are trying to make money but this whole auction system is just stupid. Winning bids doesn't mean they are the most popular or most used checkpoint. It just mean some people with more money are willing to bid up some models to be featured. At this rate, if the most popular models get outbidded out of the system people will be frustrated enough to leave civitai as their favourite models are no longer usable in the generator.

@Goofy_Ai This is just like p2w games, it sucks if you are a free user or people who spend a small amount, it's only fun if you are a whale.

@Goofy_Ai I feel the same too, I didn't like the alternative, but seems like civitai is making the decision for me.

Let's just move to tensort art and make them panic. I'm also pretty sure civitai is really not profitable and is only propped up by a few investors because of the AI craze.

@ChunkWit It's pretty good, Imo, let's you impaint, and a bunch of other things civit doesn't. I'd say it's a bit more stable, but not faster. It's credit system is a bit annyoing but i'd say it's great over all.

@hexe621net922 Taking a look at the site, it runs absolutely terribly on my phone, and it has a fraction of the content and models at a glance.

@ChunkWit It has a smaller user base than civitai and has been trying to poach civitai creators to move over for a while. It hasn't been entirely successful but they probably don't have to do anything if civitai piss off enough users to migrate over.

@Ealonon That's all well and good, but until Tensor or/and CivitAi stop sucking, that still means that I'm left out to dry.

@ChunkWit well we can only hope civitai listen to the complaints, a lot of people seems to be very vocal now that the changes have affected everyone site wide.

Things like these usually mean that the investment capital is running out, and that some cluless asshole in a suit hopes to make things more profitable by tacking on more payment mechanics to the product, or making some sort of really stupid change to it to try to increase appeal.

He hasn't actually thought about how this is supposed to work, or IF this can work, he doesn't really know anything at all about the field of this company, but figures that maybe it'll work here, so he insists.

It might actually increase profit, or it doesn't and instead profit just tanks, maybe it even stays level, but invariably the product enshittifies and becomes worse for everyone.

@ChunkWit yeah I think you are right. The guys who are communicating with us probably can't tell us stuff like that. They are just doing their job and have to put up with the aftermath of whatever stupid decisions the suits make.

I've worked in a startup recently, sometimes the bosses just don't want to listen what the stakeholders want. They want to do things their way, then when shit hits the fan only try to find out what went wrong.

Damn, I lost access to one of my most frequently used checkpoints because of this stupid auction system. And I'm wondering, what will the creators of the new checkpoints do? How will they earning popularity and Buzz if no one can use them?

@Goofy_Ai I wonder how premium users who paid for additional Buzz feel, and now do not have access to the necessary checkpoint, and are forced to spend even more Buzz to restore access.... for a week? And do it every week.

@Goofy_Ai By the way, why do some users manage to post below the art that was generated on the site? Is this a bug? Or is it someone posting what they managed to generate before the checkpoint off?

You could say it hurt me too, because Perfect Pony is the Checkpoint I use the most and let's just say the results from the other Checkpoints didn't quite convince me.

Edit: I'm already considering looking for other alternatives (downloading the models offline or looking for other sites)

@ChunkWit I mean yeah, I never used it from phone. but you can just uplaod any LoRA you are missing from civit to tensor. As long as you mark it as a reopload and link to the original one. It's much better in many aspects imo.

@normad11 I guess they want me to spend much more? But now I can't even spend at all, it's completely uncertain and unclear, and costs are just way higher in a really unclear sense.
I would much rather that they just increased the price for buying buzz instead, or increase buzz costs, just be straightforward with us instead.

@Goofy_Ai You make enough Buzz in a day to have this checkpoint enabled forever. You choosing to not put up some Buzz so that others can continue to use your model speaks more about you than anything.

@sephticle I understand your point, but if we analyze it objectively, it's a valid complaint, since the auction system is based on giving support to checkpoints depending on how much buzz they get weekly. It's an unfair system because it means that now those who have money are the ones making the decisions simply by paying more (essentially turning it into an oligarchy)

@sephticle elon musk make enough money to end world hunger, are you going to tell him to do that? the main problem is that the auction system is flawed, you shouldn't blame the creators for not exploiting the system or ask them to use the buzz that they had earned which they are entitled to when it wasn't their fault in the first place that we are placed in the current predicament.

how would you feel when other users ask you to pledge yellow buzz weekly to ensure prefect pony is usable every week because we think you make more money than us wheter true or not?

This seems like a joke in bad taste, and regrettable, you have a base that is quite popular (myself included) and now they make this requirement, it greatly limits the experience, it's a bit bad that you receive bad reviews at the expense of this, good luck and look for a lot of support

@DraegonManaka That's nice in the short term, but it's incredibly obnoxious to have to do it and it shouldn't be encouraged. If it's gonna cost more for them to run the place, then just cut the obfuscating gambling bullshit and raise the costs instead.

@ChunkWit I agree, because the problem is long-term. It may still work in a week or two, but time will pass, and they'll stop paying, to the point where it simply won't reach the estimated figure and will remain disabled for a long time, preventing users from using it in a more accessible way.

Civitai's rationale that the auction system is going to help lesser known checkpoints to see the light of day is flawed. The only thing it does is to force people to bid, so that they can keep using it on the on-site generator for their favorite models.

why is everybody here using their phones to do everything? a cheap $250 PC (the price of a good android phone) with a gtx 1060 will run local stable diffusion perfectly fine. i'm surprised civitai was free for as long as it has been lol

as the popularity of this site grows and more users flock to this site, it will cost exponentially more money to maintain the site and the fact generating photos uses up a lot of electricity; creates heat and more servers required means more staff to maintain them

it's not like we need to be generating artworks every hour of the day. running it locally when you get home from school or learning to draw would be a much better option since most of you guys are teenagers. that's the best time to learn

all people do on this site is complain and expect everything for free. even towards the creators of these models. there is no pleasing anyone

@cuuum I use both a phone and PC, but a big advantage of something like a platform like CivitAi is that you could use it with a weak device like a phone.

@ChunkWit people want convenience, plus a lot of users on this site are teenagers from third world south east Asia who can't afford a cheap PC and wouldn't bother to learn how to run ai locally even if they could. the truth pisses a lot of people off on this platform lmao

@hexe621net922 exactly. it takes a lot of computing power, so if 6000 people are generating photos at the same time on this site it's going to put a huge strain on the servers and increase wattage. how is that sustainable on a free business model as this site grows in popularity every month. tensor will follow eventually

@cuuum I know it's not, but they could still handle it better, no matter what. Like I'm pretty sure civit is just propped up by the initial investor money from the time the AI hype was at it's peak. I already pay for credits when I need some, I would be fine with other restrictions, but not having access to models is pretty shit.

@cuuum They should just be transparent and declare that costs will be made higher. This stupid gambling system is just a really awkward and inefficient obfuscation, which simply damages the functionality of the site for the customers for no good reason at all, and most likely damages revenue intake instead of improving it.
