PATRICK NAGEL - Pin-Up Artist Series (NSFW)

Patrick Nagel (born 25-11-1945 – died 04-02-1984) was born in Ohio, but was

raised and lived most of his life in Los Angeles. After a tour of duty in Vietnam,

he attended the Chouinard Art Institute in LA and California State University,

Fullerton, where he received his Master's in Fine Art in 1969.

A year later, Nagel worked with ABC-tv designing promotional art and posters

and started freelancing for different clients like Architechtual Digest,

Harper's Magazine, IBM, ITT, MGM, Oui, United Artists and Universal Studios

to name a few.

Beginning in 1976, Nagel began contributing regularly to Playboy, which

extended the exposure and popularity of his artworks to a huge and

loyal audience.

He introduced what would become his signature artwork - "The Nagel Woman ".

His drawings and paintings of women were totally unique in that they were

pared down to the simplest of details, but Nagel worked three dimensionality

out of what potentially could have been just plain flat images.

The white skin, bold colors and provocative poses were striking and garnered

immediate favorable reactions.

The "Nagel Woman" became an established, dominant stylized icon of the 1980s.

His original paintings sold out within minutes of art exhibition openings and

his posters were collected by prestigious institutions such as the U.S. Library

of Congress, the Oakland Museum, The Grunwald Center for Graphics Arts and

so many other Art Museums around the world.

Nagel's fame grew with commissons from the likes of Joanna Cassidy, Joan Collins,

Brooke Shields, Shannon Tweed, and so many other famous Stars.

It reached the peak when he was commissioned to make an album cover for the

band Duran Duran in 1982 "Rio".

Unfortunately, he died of a heart attack in 1984. He was just 38 years old.

Nagel's time in the spotlight was short, but his artwork influenced a generation

of artists and the illustration/clip art of the 1980's and beyond.

I used 51 well prepared high-resolution images for Ai-training.

Images are of women between the ages of 21 to 45 years old

The art was trained on the original Stable-Diffusion-1.5-pruned.ckpt checkpoint,

to 2550 steps, with a batch of 2, and 1 epoch.

.

For Best results use LoRA weight parameters at = 0.8 , 0.9

I tested using all available Sampling Methods and a few Checkpoints.

All my images posted are "Test images" and none have been fixed with

SD-Inpainting or Photoshop.

I found that DPM2-a-Karras seems to work best in reproducing this style of

art and using the ProtogenX34Photorealism as the Main checkpoint with

Realistic-Vision as the second checkpoint-merger.

You may test other Checkpoints and settings as they all create some

wonderful visual effects and artworks, with a Patrick Nagel art style.

The only problem I have found is that it does not create blonde women too well,

because Patrick Nagel hardly painted blonde women. Best hair colors are black,

some brown and some red-heads. Look at his art to discover what other things

he usually painted on women.
