Spider-Gwen, the alternate-universe version of Gwen Stacy known as Spider-Woman or Ghost-Spider from Earth-65, debuted in Edge of Spider-Verse #2 (September 2014), created by Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez as part of the "Spider-Verse" event. In this reality, Gwen Stacy is bitten by a radioactive spider, gaining spider-like powers, while her friend Peter Parker dies after transforming into the Lizard in a desperate attempt to become special like her. Haunted by Peter's death and hunted as a vigilante by her police captain father George Stacy, Gwen balances her superhero life with playing drums in the band the Mary Janes. Her immediate popularity led to an ongoing Spider-Gwen series launching in February 2015.
The character has undergone several key developments, including crossovers like Spider-Geddon (2018), bonding with a Venom symbiote in the "Gwenom" arc, and relocating to Earth-616 to operate as Ghost-Spider, distinguishing herself from other spider-heroes. Series such as Spider-Gwen: Ghost-Spider (2018–2019) and Ghost-Spider (2019–2020) explored her adjustment to a new universe, while limited runs like Spider-Gwen: Gwen-Verse (2022), Shadow Clones (2023), and Smash (2023–2024) featured multiversal threats and battles against variants or clones.
As of late 2025, Spider-Gwen stars in the ongoing Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider (2024), which transitioned into All-New Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider in 2025, continuing her adventures across dimensions and dealing with personal conflicts, solidifying her as a resilient, music-loving hero navigating guilt, family, and multiversal responsibilities.
