The weird tradition of biting gold comes from the old days of prospectors in order to test the softness of the metal, to confirm its purity. Today its mostly something photographers ask athletes to do in order to get the medal in the same shot as their face.
I haven't been watching the Olympics, apart from some of the memes that have come out of it. Such as all the anime Olympic shooters, Australia's embarrassing break-dancer (seriously I'm pretty sure I could have done a better job and I have the flexibility of a tree stump), and the cutest and most wholesome moment of China's Zhou Yaqin biting into her silver medal.

You can have multiple characters biting into medals, but the good results are a lot harder to come by, so the weight needs to be higher for that to work. Its also very biased towards gold medals.
