Elektra Natchios, a complex antiheroine in Marvel Comics, was created by Frank Miller and first appeared in Daredevil #168 in January 1981. Born on a Greek island to Hugo Kostas Natchios, a prominent diplomat, and his wife Christina, Elektra endured profound tragedy early in life when her mother was killed shortly after her birth. Raised primarily by her father, she excelled in martial arts from a young age, achieving peak human conditioning and mastery in various disciplines. While attending Columbia University, she formed a passionate romantic relationship with fellow student Matt Murdock, the future Daredevil, though their bond was strained by her inner turmoil and thirst for vengeance following her father's assassination during a hostage crisis.

Elektra's path darkened after her father's death, leading her to seek training with Stick and the benevolent order known as the Chaste. Rejected due to her overwhelming rage, she infiltrated their rivals, the ninja cult called the Hand, where she honed her skills into those of a lethal assassin and bounty hunter. Returning to New York as a mercenary, she clashed with Daredevil, alternating between ally and adversary while working for figures like the Kingpin. Her signature twin sai weapons became emblematic of her deadly precision. In a pivotal arc, she was hired to eliminate Daredevil's associates but ultimately spared them, leading to a fatal confrontation with Bullseye, who impaled her with her own sai in Daredevil #181 (April 1982), resulting in her death in Murdock's arms.

Elektra's story continued beyond death when the Hand resurrected her through dark rituals to serve as their weapon, though Daredevil's intervention and the Chaste's purification restored her soul and independence. Subsequent developments saw her grappling with lingering corruption, battling Hand offshoots, and forming uneasy alliances with heroes like Wolverine and the Punisher. Over the decades, she featured in acclaimed solo series such as Elektra: Assassin (1986–1987) and assumed leadership roles against ninja threats. In more recent years, particularly from 2020 onward, Elektra temporarily took up the mantle of Daredevil during Matt Murdock's incarceration, starring in titles like Daredevil: Woman Without Fear (2022), where she protected Hell's Kitchen while navigating her enduring, complicated connection to Murdock.
