its Wukong, NOT goku.
Goku in Japanese means Wukong, Goku from DragonBall is based on Wukong as whole anime is inspired by Jurney to the west.
@bitzupa I know that of course. But there's a huge difference in cultural representation. I mean if you are quoting the name of the game, at least show respect and stick to the original.
OK
@GC Wukong is literally Goku, as they were written completely the same in Japanese and Chinese. And Goku in Dragon Ball was a Journey to the West parody at the beginning, the cultural representation there also was pointed to classical Chinese novel. It was until much later chapters of the manga, due to more commercialized consideration, extended the Dragon Ball narrative into more fighting centric, and alien scifi superhero vibe.
@MQSXT thank you I am well aware of the background, as you do, but probablly not everyone will have the knowledge in the western world. the point is after many years of Dragonball's influfence, Goku is now well known of as a Japanese anime character, is pronounced in japanese, and gives the impression of japanese culture, regardless of its origins. while Wukong, pronounced in Chinese, will tell and remind people this is the "real" and original name of the character from the Chinese Myth. these two names mean the same, but are totally different in concept. I don't think the game makers, or any chinese people (at least the ones I know) will be happy if Wukong will be replaced by Goku, especially if you are referring to a game's title, that's a bit disrespectful in my opinion. just imagine people start talking about dbz and say "super saiyan Wukong". its weird and disrespectful to dbz.
