It doesn't really matter, you can use for either. Pony technically IS XL but it was trained up with a lot more furry content, and maybe anime. I think it's initial aim was MLP, wouldn't know, not into that myself. But if you use pony on SDXL or vice versa and it isn't using, just try using a higher weight on it, like 1.5-2.0.
