    Marquetry

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marquetry

When I tried to get Flux.1.DEV to do marquetry or inlaid wood images it was very difficult. So I made this LoRA on the CivitAI trainer :-)

It is not perfect and has a habit of using cheap pine in the background, but it does give plenty of nice images that I couldn’t get any other way.

Generated images are, of course, just an imitation of real life marquetry - so please don’t expect perfect inlays. There is often a slight, umm, 2.5D look to the images... elevated sections and shadowing.

This LoRA will work without a trigger to produce a kind of simplified marquetry image, but a bit cartoon’y. Also, it will fail for some generations - particularly people.

If you use this phrase at the start of your prompt:

    cs-m4rq style marquetry

the LoRA will produce richer and more detailed marquetry images. The token “cs-m4rq” helps by itself, but the full phrase was better when I did comparison tests.

Alternative phrases that can produce good results:

    cs-m4rq style colored marquetry

    cs-m4rq style exotic wood marquetry

Obviously you can also use any marquetry or wood crafting terms as well. Specifying exotic wood names (e.g. ebony, cedar, mahogany) sometimes stops the LoRA from using cheap and nasty pine. You can also try other materials such as tortoiseshell, nacre or jade... occasional good results but I think I would need to make a new training set to really get the look that craftspeople achieve IRL.

Mostly, the LoRA will produce flat representations of marquetry. Sometimes, though, it will produce a 3D effect - i.e. objects made of exotic woods. Some of my test results were really nice but I have not tested specifically for that sort of image.

This Marquetry LoRA should work well with other pattern LoRAs but I have not tested that yet. I hope to add some galleries later.

If you make any nice images with this LoRA, whether plain marquetry or mixed with other LoRAs to produce something weird & wonderful, please post them below. I don’t get any Buzz for cross-posts, so if you can post at least 1 image here that would be appreciated :-)
