Carnotaurus — The “Carnivorous Bull” of Patagonia Carnotaurus sastrei was a large carnivorous theropod from the late Cretaceous period in Patagonia. Measuring approximately 7.5 to 8 meters in length and with an extremely light body for its size, it was one of the most specialized predators in South America. Its short, deep skull, marked by two thick horns above its eyes, gave it a unique appearance among carnivorous dinosaurs.

The skeleton, preserved with skin impressions, reveals a covering of small, granular scales interspersed with rows of elongated osteoderms—suggesting a body adapted for speed and endurance. Its long, muscular legs indicate that Carnotaurus was likely one of the fastest theropods of its time, perhaps capable of short, explosive sprints.

Its tiny arms, even smaller than those of a T. rex, were vestigial, but its robust neck and light jaw suggest an attack strategy based on quick strikes, efficiently grabbing and tearing flesh. Inhabiting coastal plains, open forests, and areas near estuaries, it likely hunted medium-sized herbivorous dinosaurs, competing with other abelisaurids and large crocodilians.
