Grandmaster Rathe warned the Riftwatchers. The Conclave Arcana was preparing expeditions, making a play for the secret of Praetoria.

The rest of the world? Too broken to care.

The sun had barely set on the rebellion. Kingdoms, empires, and nation-states were still licking their wounds. Rebuilding. Mourning. Not ready for another conflict. But maybe—just maybe—someone would answer the call.

So the Riftwatchers sent Bren Palesworn.

Not a hero. Not a general. A ghost. A shadow slipping among the splinters, training the few who were willing to stand against the conclave.

To the dwarves of Grimbardun, he appeared as a dwarf with a long beard and a thirst for ale, and he trained them to withstand the fires of Oridum. To the orcs of Duratuk, he came with tusks and rage, training them to weather Jicarilla’s floods.

And so it went—with the elves of Thanaloria, the gnomes of Nimbledook, and the ulund of Ulundin. Each saw one of their own. And each learned what they needed to survive the magics of the Conclave Arcana.

When he left, he left no trail. No trace. Only skill enough to endure, and a single message whispered across five splinters:

“Hold the line. The mage wagons will come.”
