    Natalie Wood, born Natalia Nikolaevna Zakharenko on July 20, 1938, in San Francisco, California, was an acclaimed American actress known for her seamless transition from child star to leading lady. She gained early fame with her role in Miracle on 34th Street (1947) and later earned critical acclaim as a teenager in Rebel Without a Cause (1955), which garnered her an Academy Award nomination.

    Wood's career flourished with standout performances in films like Splendor in the Grass (1961), West Side Story (1961), and Gypsy (1962). Her ability to portray complex, emotionally resonant characters made her one of Hollywood's most beloved stars. Despite her success, her life was tragically cut short when she drowned under mysterious circumstances near Santa Catalina Island on November 29, 1981, at the age of 43.
