She couldn't, having eaten Yomi's fruit. She agreed to appeal to Yomi's Gods, warning him not to look. He did, seeing her as a decaying ??????. Horrified, he fled, sealing the cave with a boulder. Izanami swore vengeance, taking one thousand souls daily.

Now, the war has broken the seal, freeing Izanami, who emerges, lifeless yet vengeful. One thousand souls will not suffice.
