Cameron Diaz is an American actress born on August 30, 1972, in San Diego, California. She is the daughter of a Cuban-American father and an Anglo-German mother. Diaz began her career as a model at the age of 16, traveling to various countries including Japan, Australia, Mexico, Morocco, and Paris. At 21, she returned to California and auditioned for a role in "The Mask" (1994) despite having no previous acting experience. She was cast as the female lead opposite Jim Carrey, which marked the beginning of her successful acting career. Diaz continued to build her filmography with roles in independent films such as "The Last Supper" (1995), "Feeling Minnesota" (1996), and "Head Above Water" (1996), before returning to mainstream cinema with "My Best Friend's Wedding" (1997).
