Adrienne Barbeau is an American actress and singer, best known for her work in the 1970s and 1980s, particularly in horror and science fiction films.

Early Career (1970s)

• Broadway and Musical Theater: Barbeau first gained prominence in the late 1960s as a Broadway actress. She starred as Rizzo in the original Broadway production of Grease (1971), earning a Tony Award nomination for her performance.

• Television Stardom: She became a household name in the mid-1970s through her role as Carol Traynor, the liberated feminist daughter of Bea Arthur’s character, on the hit sitcom Maude (1972–1978). The show was a major success and helped establish Barbeau as a television star.

• Horror and Genre Films: Transitioning to film in the late 1970s, Barbeau became associated with horror and sci-fi, particularly through her collaborations with director John Carpenter, whom she later married.

  • The Fog (1980) – She starred as radio DJ Stevie Wayne in this supernatural horror film.

  • Escape from New York (1981) – Played Maggie, alongside Kurt Russell.

  • Creepshow (1982) – Featured in the segment "The Crate."

During this period, Barbeau became known as a “scream queen” due to her roles in horror films, as well as for her striking looks and presence. However, she also had a background in musical theater, which demonstrated her versatility.
