Wildcards can be used in both! You need the Dynamic Prompt extension to use wildcards in general, but it doesn't matter which version the model is.
What are the keywords to use for this?
These are wildcards, to be used with the Dynamic Prompts extention. Once you have it installed, you can use the name of the text file to fill in a wildcard in your prompt (ie, "a _ _cameraViews_ _ of a cabin in the woods" will give you several shots of a cabin in the woods, where "CameraViews" is replaced by one item on the wildcard list.

As soon as I add any detail to prompt beyond very basics the wildcard doesn't get picked up.
well, it's just a wildcard, so all it is doing is adding the words to your prompt. Try increasing the strength, or moving it to the front of the prompt. If you need a camera angle more strongly, you should look for a lora, which is actually trained.
